After inserting Energy Upgrade''s in the Electrolytic Separator the Energy Usage doesn''t decrease. 2 Electrolytic separators (Upgrades: 8 energy, 3 speed) 2 PRCs (Upgrades: 8 energy, 8 speed) 2 Crushers (Upgrades: 8 energy, 8 speed) 3 Gas-burning generators I have seen this setup a bunch of times on this subreddit and on some E2E playthroughs on but I can''t seem to get it working properly. Here are some things I''ve already tried/checked:
Power is provided using a Creative Energy Cell from Thermal Expansion. I do not believe there is a power delivery issue. I''m unsure if this issue carries over to other machines (Untested). Separators use high amounts of energy, especially when upgraded, to avoid an infinite energy exploit by feeding the Hyrdrogen from water to a Gas-Burning Generator. If you have no better
It costs the same amount of energy to separate water into oxygen/hydrogen as you get by burning the hydrogen; and energy upgrades don''t make the separator more efficient for balancing. All your power is either coming from the solar panel or stored in the cables and machine buffers
Issue description. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but the addition of Energy Upgrades into the electrolytic separator appears to have no impact on overall energy usage, while speed upgrades have a major effect.
Since Mekanism 7.1 (Minecraft 1.7.10) the Electrolytic Separator requires 400 joules of power per tick, or 160 FE per tick. Without upgrades, it performs 1 operation per tick. Notably, each
Issue description I installed the Energy improvement in the separator and noticed the fact that the consumption did not decrease, but the amount of energy increased. Energy upgrades do not decrease the consumption of electrolytic separators intentionally. 16, 2024. see general.toml section general.energy_conversion: #How much energy is
Issue description My electrolytic separators, with 8 speed upgrades, use 40.96 kFE/t no matter how many energy upgrades are installed. Steps to reproduce No response Minecraft version 1.16.5 (Latest) Forge version 36.2.30 Mekanism versio...
When the Electrolytic Separator was first given the upgrade slot, it followed both of those rules and allowed the machine to break the Laws of Thermodynamics (oops). The fairly quick but haphazard response was to make the Electrolytic Separator not receive the efficiency boost. That works, but also generates a lot of false bug reports as it is

The electrolytic separator has a weird power usage using upgrades, for example, a stock separator uses 400j/t and produces the same amount in hydrogen that the gas generator is burning. If all 8 energy upgrades are installed, the energy usage is reduced to 40j/t while the gas production stays the same.

This also happens to be why the Electrolytic Separator is the only machine to not get the efficiency boost from using Energy Upgrades. If you need Hydrogen, then you actually do need to supply that much power (form any source). Ethylene (which is made from Hydrogen) burned in the Gas-Burning Generator is probably Mekanism''s strongest non
"Electrolytic Separator" does accept "Energy Upgrades" but if you put some in the power consumption don''t sink. Steps to reproduce: Tage "Energy Upgrades" in inventory and open "Upgrade"-GUI at "Electrolytic Separator" Put "Energy Upgrades" in Upgrade-Slot and let them load; Control your power consumption of the machine.
You just need to use speed and energy upgrades on both the separator and whatever you''re pumping into. Then use gas upgrades on the machine you''re pumping into. That fixed it for me.

Try getting a bunch of energy upgrades into your electrolytic seperator to reduce its energy usage/tick. Make sure you''re dumping excess oxygen or using it so it doesn''t stop hydrogen
The Electroylytic Separator is being powered by Advanced Universal Cable, if that matters. No upgrades: Energy usage: With upgrades: Energy usage: It appears that, when an upgrade has finished applying, it looks as though it''s attempting to adjust the energy usage (quick flickering between numbers) but it goes right back to 400.0 J/t.
The Electrolytic Separator, when separating Water into Hydrogen and Oxygen gas, does not respond to Energy Upgrades. Other machines do. The Electroylytic Separator is being powered by Advanced
Optimal power setups for the Electrolytic Separator. So in order to get more ore with Mekanism you need oxygen and you need an Electrolytic Separator for that. I used all 8 energy upgrades
*energy upgrades will work differently on the other hand, each upgrade will slightly increase the efficiency of the machine to near 100% and the energy capacity increase would remain the same (energy used by separator: energy recovered from gas generator) stock: 20% efficient 1 energy upgrade: 30% efficient 2 energy upgrades: 40% efficient
I''ve got the electrolytic separator set up for 3x ore mining (connected to an auto miner via entangleporter). All of a sudden my ore processing started chugging, and tracked it down to this. Every other machine has full energy, but the electrolytic separator and the lack of oxygen is obviously slowing ore down to a crawl.

Stick a full set of Energy Upgrades in the Electrolytic Separator. Supply Water; Burn Hydrogen in a Gas-Burning Generator for 10x the power you put in. A full set of Speed Upgrades will net you nearly 18k J/t. Version (make sure you are on the latest version before reporting):
Try getting a bunch of energy upgrades into your electrolytic seperator to reduce its energy usage/tick. Make sure you''re dumping excess oxygen or using it so it doesn''t stop hydrogen production. Potentially add both upgrades to your seperator, keeping them 1:1 will directly increase efficiency however it will increase total power and water usage.

Since Mekanism 7.1 (Minecraft 1.7.10) the Electrolytic Separator requires 400 joules of power per tick, or 160 FE per tick. Without upgrades, it performs 1 operation per tick. Notably, each speed upgrade doubles the operation speed of this machine, for 256 operations per tick with the maximum of 8 speed upgrades.
If not, and you have just speed, that’ll do it. Also, depending on which machine they’re pumping into, use the “gas” upgrade in that machine. It will upgrade the efficiency. Should use less of said gas that way, so the separator will not have to work as hard. Something's wrong there.
And since an Electrolytic Separator is not that much more expensive than a speed+energy upgrade card, it really doesn't make sense to consume 100x power (operate them at 10% efficiency). Difference in material between upgrading 1 separator vs building 9 more (10x speed either way)
Typically the first application of the Electrolytic Separator is in the electrolyzing of water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. Both have various uses within other recipes. Highter-tier ore processing requires the creation of Chlorine, which is a product of electrolyzing the sodium chlorides in a Brine solution.
There is an issue that happens with multiple electrolytic separators where they start eating all of the power and not giving more gas. Try breaking them all and putting one at a time back down and turning it on, that has usually fixed it for me. I actually had this problem last night.
