I recently researched solar panels replacing the conventional electric. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced a significant amendment to the Approved Models and Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules (ALMM) Order, 2019 which will have far-reaching implications for India’s solar power sector and its clean energy transition .
To reduce India’s dependency on solar product imports and make it self-reliant, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced that solar module manufacturers must register under the Approved list of modules and manufacturers (ALMM).
Manufacturers of solar modules can have their modules or panels listed in the ALMM, both domestically and internationally. The main goal of developing such a list was to guarantee the calibre of solar panels and the dependability of the manufacturer. There are currently no overseas manufacturers listed.
The latest list of ALMM was updated on the 24th of Jan 2024. This is the 14th revision since it was first introduced. In the first list of ALMM, there were only 23 solar companies that got approval.
Also, for government subsidy schemes, you have to use DCR (Domestic content requirement) Solar modules. Any project violating this norm will be penalized, and not get the final approval. As of Jan 2024, ALMM does not include any foreign manufacturer. This will encourage the domestic manufacturing of solar modules.
